If I had to add any tag other than "Metal" to this album, it would be "Grunge", because it has evident influences from either or both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden while retaining a very heavy and deep sound, with melodic harmonies and a voice that can just as well delve in the depths of darkness, scream and scream or come back to the surface and sing.

Between the desert and the deep sea.

Monobrow - Big Sky, Black Horse

Just discovered this gem while browsing some band's recommendations. It's fully instrumental so you needn't worry about what the singer's voice is gonna sound like during that long intro, you know what I mean.

Lemurian Folk Songs - Logos

Lemurian Folk Songs are a very talented band from Budapest, Hungary. Their special brand of sound will put you in the middle of the desert with an ample supply of mystical water and other crisps and delicacies to keep you alive.

A necessary heaviness is to be expected from their universe, it makes for a very rich and textured sound, with hypnotic vocals, otherworldly guitar licks and jams, a bass that transports to anywhere but here, drums that carry the lot.

If you have the opportunity to see them live or to buy their music, just do it. It's one of those times when a talented young band only needs you to keep up making excellent music.

Having said that, I'm going for the album...

And a t-shirt.

The Black Wizards - What The Fuzz!

I've just now finished listening to The Black Wizards' whole discography and I must say I'm impressed.

Not a single track let me down, it rose up, up, and never fell flat. Their debut EP sets the tone and their three albums continue on with astounding stability, musical mastery and a fuzzy atmosphere that takes you from the bottomless pits of the underworld all the way to the snowy peaks where eagles dare.

Their latest album is priced at 1€, but all the others are NYP, so my good advice is listen, listen again, buy all of it in high-quality format, then take it with you and listen again, but louder. Go see them live, drink what you like to drink and enjoy.

Cambrian Explosion - The Moon

Ok here we go. Your grandparents might not like this album very much. But if they do, you lucky person you. Tell them I said hi will you.

Gentle heaviness and rocket-reactor-like power embedded in a small number of megabytes just for your enjoyment. Here's some spacey Stoner that I discovered thanks to a pretty neat Youtube channel called Underrated Albums which you ought to check out.

Special mention of epicness to the track Crust of Theia.

Sergeant Thunderhoof - Terra Solus

From Bath in the UK comes Sergeant Thunderhoof, a band who plays with everything that makes Stoner great music, with a pinch of Metal bits sprinkled on top.

Epic solos, rhythms both heavy and powerful, a chtonian and metallic harmony that descends into the depths of the Earth and comes back up snowy wolf-ridden peaks.

The cherry on top, psychedelic visuals exactly like you didn't know you wanted them to be.

Sometimes life is just good and you have to accept it.

A band to follow closely, to be sure.

All Them Witches - A Sweet Release

Good stoner is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Once you get your greedy hands on that needle, don't let go ! And while you're at it try to find a bunch of other needles, they may come in handy.

One of those needles I've found is this, A Sweet Release by All Them Witches, a great stoner band consisting of Robby Staebler at the drums, Ben McLeod at the guitar, Charles Michael Parks Jr. at the bass guitar and the vocals, and Allan Van Cleave at the keys.

Their music is like an satisfyingly heavy psychedelic trip to the heart of the planet and back, as should always be the case.

I won't get tired of it anytime soon but that could not be the case of your neighbours mind you, so invite them for a pint while you listen to this gem.

Sergeant Thunderhoof - Ride of The Hoof

It's been a while, so I'll just put this bit of groovy stoner metal here. I just stumbled upon it by utter chance, and the cover just called and I had to answer.

Trippy Wicked and the Cosmic Children of the Knight - Going Home

All we like in stoner metal is contained in this full-length album, big fat saturated guitars, wall-shaking rhythms, voices from above and below, and a big dose of booze. Here's what to listen to today.

It's simply one of the best free metal albums I've ever listened to (yeah I know I say that each time, but it gets truer and truer). Let's only say that it will blow your mind, cut your firewood and possibly tear down the foundations of your house.

A nice album to illustrate this month of october, which I imagine is really heavy, and needs a couple bottles thrown in its face

Various Artists - Marijuanaut Vol. I

Drug culture it seems, can give many spirits a good deal of great ideas. The italians of the webzine Doomabbestia,  with the help of their friends from The Smoking Goat Records, present us with the first volume of Marijuanaut, a compilation meant to gather all the best contemporary italian doom metal and heavy psych.

In two CDs, this compilation goes through the obscure realms of metal, be it doom, stoner of psych, you name it. They have the heavy in common, you'll hear.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the instrumentals that really got me hooked. Those musicians let themselves go with all the lyrical heaviness they have, to embroider the guttural nightmarish screams which the connoisseurs will enjoy in the proper way.

Across Tundras - Electric Relics

Across Tundras hails from Nashville, Tennessee, cradle of the boogie and country music. You can feel subtle influences of these genres on their music, which is more out of the psychedelic rock world, with sometimes a very enjoyable heaviness.

There's a bit of Black Sabbath, a bit of je ne sais quoi, but above all their own proper style, which creates images such as a long road under the burning sun, clouds of dust, tumbleweeds rolling and tumbling, a smell of rolled cigarettes and spilled whiskey glasses, minus the glass shards.

Brain Pyramid - Chasma Hideout

Brain Pyramid is everything we like in Stoner Metal, big heavy guitars that know how to groove, that sometimes jump over a desertic horizon, under a searing sun.

You find yourself caught in a psychonaut biker gang war and the only thing you have to defend yourself is your force of will and the very ancient beer glass that has been passed on from generation to generation in your family.

An excellent album that embodies perfectly the rock'n'roll side of Stoner.
