Sergeant Thunderhoof - Delicate Sound of Thunderhoof

If anyone needed any more proof that Sergeant Thunderhoof is an exceptional band capable of exceptional musical prowess, just check this collection of acoustic self-remixes.

The texture rendered by the acoustic guitar is so clear and crisp it feels like sitting inside the instrument while it's being played.

A very nostalgic atmosphere, pretty different from the usual epic cosmic cavalcade. It just begs you to listen again to the whole discography.

Acqtäz - From Honey to Ashes

This album is pretty hard to pin down. It's as if Dirtwire had a baby with themselves, in a swamp, while Amon Tobin watched from the bushes. A savoury guitar work lifts up, carried by heavy basslines and stalked by strange little noises and background rhythms.

An artist (or band?) that will give you some trouble each time someone will ask you 'hey, whatcha listenin' to?'

The best ones.

Bagul - Vintage Baguls

After a 6-year hiatus, Bagul comes back with a series of clean-cut beats reminiscing of sunset-lit cityscapes, road-trips to the beach in an old car... seems to me they are just waiting for lyrics to gracefully perch themselves upon their soundwaves, but I am personally a fan of instrumental pieces.

Supervoid - Filaments

If I had to add any tag other than "Metal" to this album, it would be "Grunge", because it has evident influences from either or both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden while retaining a very heavy and deep sound, with melodic harmonies and a voice that can just as well delve in the depths of darkness, scream and scream or come back to the surface and sing.

Between the desert and the deep sea.

Just discovered this gem while browsing some band's recommendations. It's fully instrumental so you needn't worry about what the singer's voice is gonna sound like during that long intro, you know what I mean.

Spacious Sweep - FM Voltage

Welcome to the original soundtrack of the lost season of Miami Vice.

Alright I stole that line from a guy who bought the album on Bandcamp but still, it's a pretty accurate description.

Spacious Sweep's music never overstep its bounds, it's clear and well-defined, and it will take you to the beach, to the motel, to that dark alley, to all the places you need to go to find out who killed who and maybe even why they did it!

Constant quality and an atmosphere between a video game and an old detective TV show is exactly what you'll find if you press play.

Just do it, come on... you won't regret it.

Lemurian Folk Songs - Logos

Lemurian Folk Songs are a very talented band from Budapest, Hungary. Their special brand of sound will put you in the middle of the desert with an ample supply of mystical water and other crisps and delicacies to keep you alive.

A necessary heaviness is to be expected from their universe, it makes for a very rich and textured sound, with hypnotic vocals, otherworldly guitar licks and jams, a bass that transports to anywhere but here, drums that carry the lot.

If you have the opportunity to see them live or to buy their music, just do it. It's one of those times when a talented young band only needs you to keep up making excellent music.

Having said that, I'm going for the album...

And a t-shirt.

Dangerous City - The Eneu Trinity

As far as Synthwave is concerned, I think I've found the album of the year (and just in time too).

Perfect blend of good old Synth with a dark twist, electric guitar licks and a metallic overtone, The Eneu Trinity follows a story of demons and murder, of futuristic cities of constant thunderstorms and infinite sunsets, of underground clubs packed with beats and violence...

In short, this could very well be turned into an epic action movie, and I would watch it with so much, so much pop-corn... (and beer).

4mat - Modern Closure

4mat makes chiptune music in a way that is so unique that it doesn't even strike one as chiptune at first hearing. It's filled with otherworldly atmospheres, half-whispered references to other time-and-space-continuums.

All in all this music is unlike any other.

Haircuts for men - テンペスト地域 (COLLECTED EDITION)

After making us salivate for weeks with bits and pieces of dreamy music, Haircuts for men (finally) puts those bits in one whole release, 15 tracks between intricate Chill and vaporous Vaporwave that will take you on a journey from the clothing section of a giant, maze-like supermarket to the heart of an urban district. In between, we'll go to the moon.

It's always a good idea to go and inspect your favourite artists' catalog, remember.

GLÜ - Three

GLÜ's music is strange, impossible to classify, sometimes fascinating, other times brutal, ever changing. I had the opportunity to see him live one lifetime ago at the late Festival de la Tour de Samme, and it was intense to say the least.

So intense that I forgot to look it up upon waking the next day. Until a good friend of mine reminded me about it, I had never searched for the why, the how, the when, and most importantly, the what.

Now I discover that GLÜ's music is NYP, so what, am I to resist? I say no. So here it is, on a platter made of simili-silver, in a room foggy and noisy, people dancing around as far as the eye can see.

Lost in the depths of the "to listen" folder, The Blue Stones rose again a little while ago when they released their latest single. It's not free, yes it's true. Still, this album is, and it's every bit as tasty as you'd like, a blend of blues-rock, indie-rock, hard-rock...

Just try it, it will probably make you fly, as it did me. Every bit helps those bands making more music. There's the beauty of it, all for you.

Picture your stop. It's your stop, you should get off the train... maybe. But you don't, you stay inside, and in a mysteriously luminous misty haze the train visits futuristic underwater cities in the uncharted depths. Then you sleep, you sleep, perchance you dream. Of far away lands, of still unclassified colours, of mystical animals...

Well actually it's not really a dream, it's almost as real as the air you breathe, you just pressed play on Gyoza District's newest album, and this master of weird chill music is determined to make you trip to another world.

Future Astronauts - Vessels VII

Future Astronauts is a collective specialised in the making of astounding compilation of hand-picked chilly tracks, master-crafted mixes and podcasts. The 'Vessels' series of compilation serves a good cause (as does all music, is it not?) that of helping raise mental health and suicide prevention awareness and donating all profits to charity.

So here you go, you can do a good deed while listening to state of the art trip-hop, downtempo, UK garage, ambient... you name it!

The Black Wizards - What The Fuzz!

I've just now finished listening to The Black Wizards' whole discography and I must say I'm impressed.

Not a single track let me down, it rose up, up, and never fell flat. Their debut EP sets the tone and their three albums continue on with astounding stability, musical mastery and a fuzzy atmosphere that takes you from the bottomless pits of the underworld all the way to the snowy peaks where eagles dare.

Their latest album is priced at 1€, but all the others are NYP, so my good advice is listen, listen again, buy all of it in high-quality format, then take it with you and listen again, but louder. Go see them live, drink what you like to drink and enjoy.

Waveshaper - Tracks to the Future

Waveshaper's latest album draws from an era both futuristic and nostalgic, the decade of the 2080's.

In the purest Synthwave tradition, Tracks to the Future opens a portal between the eighties that were, those that are, and those... that have not yet come to pass.

An atmosphere both cosmic and filled with nostalgia is distilled through each track.

Listening at 88mph might cause accidental time travel.

Cambrian Explosion - The Moon

Ok here we go. Your grandparents might not like this album very much. But if they do, you lucky person you. Tell them I said hi will you.

Gentle heaviness and rocket-reactor-like power embedded in a small number of megabytes just for your enjoyment. Here's some spacey Stoner that I discovered thanks to a pretty neat Youtube channel called Underrated Albums which you ought to check out.
