Flamingosis - Flight Fantastic

Flamingosis's newborn (okay, almost new) takes everything that makes chill music great, adds some funky grooves, and blends the whole thing with palm trees and sunsets viewed from a cabriolet.

Nothing more to say, just press play !

Sai Wai - Lone Samurai Masamune

Here's part one of Sai Wai's two-part debut project, this one Masamune being an album of instrumental chill jazzy relaxing, downtown sunset kind of music ; and the second one, Suzanami being embroidered with lyrics, comfortably seated on a soft bed of music.

w a l l a C - s u r d o

w a l l a C is a producer from Rio de Janeiro, now resident in Melbourne, drawing from multiple influences, from funk, reggae, dub, brasilian music and from the weirdest nooks and crannies of the realm of suprachill.

On the whole he gives an interesting chilly blend that is pretty hard to define. I'll let you be the judges of that.

This album is out on Dub Temple Records, which features not only, but lots of free-priced releases you ought to check out.

See you soon.

Vanilla - Origin

Happy new year ! Here's one of the best bestest chill albums ever made. Peace of mind and soul soothing will ensue, I can assure you.

Let's hope to the emperor 2017 will be a little less as crappy as 2016, which everyone seems to think was the worst year ever. I could name some that were a bit worse but let's focus on chill music for now.

Have a good one !

Phonophanatic - Boxbeats Vol. 5

If you want to spend a good moment I suggest you take a listen to any of the albums you may find in Phonophanatic Collective's catalog. But for today, let's take a closer look at this one.

A long time has passed since I've discovered this label with Boxbeats Vol. 2. At the time I already sensed that those guys really understood how to make great chillin grillin music.

Based in Leiden, Netherlands, Phonophanatic offers a very large catalog of releases, all of which are free-priced and packed with groovy and chilly beats. All the artists present in this compilation have careers of their own, exclusive albums that you may find on their pages by looking around a bit.

I wish you well on your quest for the truth.

Diligent Fingers & B3NBi - Smoke in The Jazz Lounge

Welcome in that smoky jazz lounge. What does jazz music means in one word for you ? That's what is going to be talked about here. A shy guy on the stage suggests we take the time to listen to a bunch of jazzy hip-hop tracks. And I say we give it a go. Let's listen, let's talk, let's enjoy.

A whole atmosphere is created. It smells like cigars, whiskey and the streets. Pour yourself a glass. It's on the house.

VA - First Light

This album I like. Very much. I've been listening to it in a loop for three days straight. Oh three very unproductive days they were, and I almost went crazy at some times, but First Light helped me get around it. The sun was shining, the chill was chilling and that was all that mattered.

Out at Expansions Collective, this compilation will take you to new heights of hip-hop and urban chill, that style of music that strangely makes me want to live in the city, whereas I thought that thought would never linger in my head. Go figure.

Saxophone, piano, hip-hop, the whole finely blended and beautifully crafted.

Perfect.

Fortune Howl - Spectrum Analysis

This is the kind of album that will make you go like "What the hell is going on here ?!", one of the first that made me want to create a tag specially made for albums impossible to classify. Broken rhythms, noises from glasses of whiskey making love, dreamy soundscapes in the back, well, it's kind of hard to describe, so I'll let you try for yourself. Definitely worth three or four listenings before full appreciation is reached.

See you around.

Mishigami - Tape C

Tape C is the debut album by Mishigami, aka Miles Coleman, classically trained pianist playing with rhythm boxes and synthesizers to create dreamy and efficient combinations. Five little tracks, a bit too few some would say, but to me, already kind of a sonic jewel. Melodies that will take you up in the clouds, vibrating basslines, a series of masterpieces of enjoyable apparent simplicity.

Out at  Young Heavy Souls, a very young artist collective among which I can only entice you to search for more.

Good listening !

J. Vibes - Late Night Soul

Let's start this sweet month of July with an album that is short but sizeable. With a simple but effective chill sound. I hope it's as sunny as I'd hoped. Well, right now there is a storm outside, and listening to this music in the mean time is just perfect.

J. Vibes produces a music influenced by jazz, hip-hop and soul, a very nice discovery I've made in a place I rarely go to, Bandcamp's homepage, you never know...

This album has been released on the Expansions Collective label from the UK. Another good name to remember. Free music never ends.

Jenova 7 & Mr. Moods - Time Travellers II

Welcome to the month of june, that means the end of school, success, failure, change, revolving doors, sun and... well, music.

I suggest we begin this sunny month with an album that we'll listen best while this troublesome gigantic ball of fire sets and lets nocturnal beings get out of their lair to listen to subtle rhythms, groovy flying saxophone solos and samples out of nowhere, on a long chair or not, with or without a glass of wine or a white beer with lemon at hand's reach.

Jenova 7 and Mr. Moods are artists of exception, especially in the world of chill music. Always meaning quality, you can just listen to everything they do and never get bored nor disappointed. You can go with eyes closed, to be sure, it's even better !

See you then.

Esbe - Bloomsday

A collection of beautiful chilly gems, well-used samples. This is not by chance if Esbe's Bloomsday is already #1 in Bandcamp's hip-hop charts. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this release. It is the work of a master, sharpened to perfection and which will certainly please the everyman as well as the instrumental hip-hop afficionados hiding among you.

Balmy - Metaverse

Never judge an album based on its first ten seconds. Most people in music stores (note to the future : still not always online in december 2014) would give up after the first measures of Metaverse because they seem so strange and out of place.

I was (and still am) a lover of weird music, so I felt compelled to listen to Balmy's music (whose name was Atmosfear at the time), and was not disappointed at all.

Coming from the ancient timescapes of 2012 and from the dark month of february, Metaverse is to me a well-crafted melting pot of soothing music, weird sounds, and a walk in the streets in the city at night when no one tries to get their hands on you purse.

Old memories already. Time flies.

Roots of Society Records - Advent Vibes Vol.2

Pure chilly vibes for your ears only, I don't really remember how I discovered Elyonbeats' album Milestone but I can certainly remember that it was in the process that I discovered Roots of Society Records, again another excellent netlabel, full of chilly releases and pearls just waiting to be found guilty of being beautiful. This compilation goes here and there, from urban chill to rap and always on the brink of a butterfly cocoon about to hatch. And saying that, I'm going to go listen to this while gardening a little, to see if the neighbours like it as much as me.

Wax Triptych - A Tale of 3 Heads

Wax Triptych, a brilliant trio featuring Jenova 7 (USA), Mononome (Greece) and Mr Moods (Canada). Beautiful musical pearls to be found here, in a dusted wax jazzifying atmosphere. Even if some of these tracks are close to becoming clichés of urban chill (almost hipster) music, those three heads still represent some of the very best of what the free trip-hop scene has to offer.

Funky Notes - The Invitation EP

January is almost over. I hope you're all having a great time in 2014. I'm still in 2013, writing to you from the past, and I do hope everything bodes well for me too. I have a lot of projects in mind and several of them include something that is completely free.
This EP is an invitation indeed, to relax or to take a walk in the city, watching people do what they do or just chill out in a warm place. Funky Notes told me to keep sharing the love, and that's what I intend to do. Hey next time you see a poor dude in the streets, buy him a warm cup of tea for me will you ? Or a sound system and this EP to ease the strain of everyday life.

Much obliged to anyone sharing the blog to his or her friends.

BKBROWN - 17AFFAIR

This is a kind of music I'd like to be able to create. I'm always thinking to myself I should get into electronic music, I mean really into it. To create, to find samples, rhythms, to play with effects, it appears both so easy and complex. In fact I don't really know where to start. BKBROWN's music is all chill relax and mind relief. Clouds around you, wings of pure groove. But so short !
